The Secret of a Thankful Heart
So many times a door in life closes and we become angry, cursing our fate. We lose a job, our girlfriend or boyfriend leaves us, our house is virtually destroyed in a storm and we have to move. To The famous Roman orator, Cicero, who lived in the First Century, A. D., had this to say about attitude, \"A thankful heart is not only the greatest Virtue, but the parent of all the other virtues.\"At first glance, this is a puzzling little saying, but since Cicero is probably one of the world\'s first motivational speakers, perhaps it is worth taking seriously. Still, we must ask, what is a thankful heart- especially in a world where hearts are so easily broken, where calamity and disappointment for so many, lurks behind every corner and where life seems so easily to dispense failure and dissatisfaction and heartbreak? It would seem that a thankful heart is possessed by a man or a woman who habitually looks at the world with a feeling of thanksgiving or gratitude despite what other people might think of the world about them. To obtain a thankful heart, one must either be slightly insane, given the nature of things- or have adopted an attitude of thankfulness, despite the normal course of things- for some over-riding reason. Cicero must; of course, being talking about someone who holds the latter opinion for he also says that a thankful heart is \"the parent of all other virtues.\"Some say that the Law of Attraction operates by sending back to you whatever you send out to the universe. It would seem that it would best to be sending out thoughts from a heart disciplined to look at the good side of things. In other words; look at life by seeking the invisible opportunity in difficulties, seize the possibilities for growth in adversity, and to look at life\'s situations from the standpoint of a thankful heart. For most, the habitual response to those situations is purely negative. But to others, who know the secret, there is always the possibility of a hidden advantage. What could that be like? Well, obviously, if you lose your job, you could get a better job, one that you would never thought of looking for. If you lose a boyfriend or have a divorce, there could be something in store from you. Things that seem bad are not always the worst possible things. Sometimes they are just a way of the universe opening up new possibilities for you to enjoy. Therefore, at the very least, when something unexpected happens, you can realize that you are stepping into the unknown. But, is there a way you can step into these unknown and perhaps seemingly dangerous waters- and still put your best foot forward? Perhaps, you can use the healing and strengthening power of gratitude. Gratitude is not just an emotion, but a power, a power that empowers you to move forward. What should we be grateful for? Yes, we should be grateful for our jobs, our homes, our cars, our financial rewards-but, principally, we should be thankful for our friends and families, for the loving relationships that nurture and sustain us everyday. But, instead, of letting our gratitude be like the backdrop of painting, a colorful but distant background to the events and drama in our lives, Greg Hand suggests that it should be a very positive, very prominent part of our lives. How do we do this? By daily, hourly, minute by minute, thanking God for the many wonderful things in our lives. In a recent video called The Secret, the movie focuses on the Law of Attraction, what it describes as the universe\'s natural and lawful tendency to return back to us what is given it. So, if you give gratitude to the universe- gratitude for the abundance, love, happiness and peace in your life, for the manifold blessings you have-even if those seem somehow hiding under a shadow- the universe will return the attitude by bringing abundance, love, happiness and peacuue into your life. Sometimes it happens in a very surprising way.The real secret, however; is to be thankful for your all the wonderful things you have in your life and to always seek the hidden advantage in the events that surround you. Dare to dream and make those dreams into your reality through your actions and thoughts

Middle School Graduation Ceremonies For the Young Parent
There are cultural differences between the United Kingdom and the United States of America which make it difficult to read the role of middle school graduation ceremonies in each country. Whereas in the United Kingdom the graduation ceremony is reserved for higher education, America believes that graduations should celebrate most major progressions in academic life. Thus the existence of middle school graduation ceremonies in America when they are virtually unheard of in the United Kingdom.
In the USA there is a practice of talking about commencement which is the rough equivalent of the graduation ceremony as we know it. That means that they are looking at graduation as the beginning of a new phase of education rather than as an end to another. This is perhaps designed to encourage children to aim higher than their current education levels. Thus if you are leaving junior high then you will be doing a commencement of higher education even as you undergo your middle school graduation ceremony.
Although the American Council on Education has developed some loose rules on what needs to be worn at which ceremony, the reality is that every head of institution will have plenty of flexibility. Thus the middle school graduation ceremony can be organized on local rules rather than trying to stick with the outdated methods that were used in previous decades. I think this level of independence is good for encouraging community responsibility and ensuring that local people take ownership of the graduation process. After all it is a family and community affair in more ways than it is a state function.
The middle school graduation ceremony will normally have some form of certificate to verify that the child has undergone a certain level of academic achievement and that they are fit to progress to the next level. If in the event the child ends up going to further study right up to post graduate level the middle school certificates may not occupy a very important place in their curriculum vitae. However if they end up on a less advanced level of education, these are some of the certificates that they will present for training and development purposes.
Once the formal middle school graduation ceremony has ended, the family will have to consider implementing a new strategy for the after event parties. The school is only responsible for the formal part and the family has to organize itself such that it can deal with the informal part. This may involve having a large family gathering for prayer and celebration. You the parent will be at the heart of the organization and it is up to you to ensure that the graduate is fully involved in the process. If you have the inclination you may invite a few school friends and some members from the school but ultimately the party will belong to your family. Quiet often most people will find the formal part boring but will only be too delighted to be invited to the party for the proper celebrations to begin in earnest.

Middle School Graduation Poems and Prayers
Perhaps one of the most challenging aspects of organizing a middle school graduation ceremony is the selection of poems and prayers for the ceremony. I know for fact that children in junior high are not the best repositories for poetry. Prayers might be a different case if you have brought them in a religious environment. However poetry is only appreciated with the experience of age. It does not come easily to all and sundry. Teenagers that are in Jr. High are not particularly interested in poetry and you will be hard pressed to get any fans. If it were up to me I would seriously consider omitting the poetry part of the program.
However if you decide that you are going to use poetry you need to use material that makes sense to the middle school graduate who will be the majority of attendants at the party. If there is some way that they can recite their own poetry, then it will be all the better for all concerned. In any case the pieces should be relatively light and appropriate for a modern audience that may not take too kindly to Shakespeare in his full glory. You might have to tone it down significantly before you get to the level that is suitable for the middle school graduation ceremony that you are trying to organize.
The next step is to consider who is going to recite the poetry at the middle school graduation ceremony. If I know teenagers well I will be almost certain that they will not want to be reciting poetry in front of a bunch of people. That is why it is better to look at alternatives such as having the parents or visitors recite the poetry. If they have younger brothers and sisters, you may be fairly surprised to note that they will be less shy about these things and might volunteer to recite the poetry. If this is the case then you can thank your lucky stars.
For some families prayers are a must and there is no way that they can complete a middle school graduation ceremony without having to first thank their God for his beneficence. They will also be praying for the future of the graduate. Where the parents are very insistent on prayer, the chances will be that they will have brought up their children in a Christian faith that will just be part of preaching to the converted.
In fact if you have a very religious family you will find that the graduate will want to say the prayers themselves. The prayers will normally involve a standard prayer for the food that is about to be consumed. There can then be prayers of thanksgiving and hope which relate specifically to the graduate. If you are going to invite a priest, it is better that you get one who is familiar with the family and who shares a denomination with the graduate. Otherwise you might end up saying prayers that do not exactly scream encouragement to the visitors.
